Volkswagen is set to launch the much-awaited Taigun facelift in India on April 9, 2026. The update is expected to make the Taigun more competitive in the mid-size SUV segment. It has just been a couple of days since the first teaser, announcing the launch date, went live on Volkswagen’s social media channels. Now, the manufacturer has put out another teaser showing more design details of the SUV.
The updated Taigun’s second teaser shows its key design highlights, in one quick sequence. We can see the connected LED headlamps, illuminated Volkswagen logo, LED tail lamps, and ‘Taigun’ badges in the video. Look closely and you will also see a ‘GT’ badge finished in Red.
The Taigun was first launched in September 2021, and this is the first facelift that the SUV is getting ever since. The company seems to have reworked the overall aesthetics significantly. While the core design will remain, details will be refined.
The front fascia, in particular, will get sleeker LED headlamps, full-width LED positioning lamp, illuminated Volkswagen logo and redesigned bumpers. The connected headlamps and illuminated logos were visible in some of the previous spy pictures. Overall, the design of the front fascia now aligns better with the styling of Volkswagen’s newer global SUVs. The facelift is also expected to get new wheels.

As suggested by the latest teaser, the tail lamp cluster could have a similar design as that of the outgoing model. It will, however, have redesigned internals. In effect, there will be a noticeable difference in its illumination pattern. Slight revisions can be expected in the rer bumper design as well. GT badge finished in Red is another detail typical of newer Volkswagens.
There is also a possibility that the facelifted SUV could grow slightly in length, effectively generating more boot space. A similar pattern was seen on the Kushaq facelift. The pre-facelift model offers 385 litres of boot space.
Over the past few years, the mid-size SUV space has evolved so much that most compact SUVs now offer higher boot capacities. There is definitely some catch-up to do on this front.
Volkswagen is expected to take a conservative approach with cabin redesign. The overall dashboard layout is likely to remain the same. The colours and materials used, however, could improve on the new model. Like on the new Kushaq, the air conditioning system could be improved on the facelifted Taigun. Cooling efficiency and performance are likely to see significant improvements.
The updated model will address a key concern that many have around the outgoing Taigun- falling short of features and technologies. Higher variants of the facelifted Taigun will come with a panoramic sunroof, a larger digital instrument cluster and a bigger touchscreen infotainment system. Existing features such as wireless charging, ambient lighting, automatic climate control and others will continue.

The facelifted Taigun is expected to retain the previous model’s engine options- 1.0 TSI and 1.5TSI- both turbocharged petrols making 115 hp and 178 Nm and 150 hp and 250 Nm respectively. The smaller engine will be offered with manual and a new 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The new gearbox replaces the six-speed automatic on the previous model, and is expected to improve drivability and fuel efficiency.
The more powerful 1.5-litre TSI engine (on the GT variants) is likely to be offered only with a seven-speed DSG transmission alone. It remains unclear if a manual transmission will be available with this engine.
