World Health Day: World Health Day is celebrated every year on 7 April. This day gives us the message of making us aware of health. In such a situation, you can include a yoga asana in your routine which can prove to be a panacea for digestive problems. By doing this for just 5 minutes daily, you can see amazing changes in your body.
Today’s busy life and poor eating habits have weakened the digestive system. Under the theme Stand with Science of World Health Day 2026, experts are now considering Pawanmuktasana as the most effective and scientific solution for stomach problems.
Pawanmuktasana
In Sanskrit, Pawan means wind and Mukta means to leave. As the name suggests, this asana helps in expelling harmful gases trapped within the body. From a scientific point of view, when we press our knees towards the chest, it creates a gentle pressure on the internal organs of the stomach. This pressure massages the abdominal organs, thereby intensifying the digestive fire and improving the absorption of food.
Relief from gas, constipation and bloating
Pawanmuktasana is a panacea for removing vata disorders. It not only cures chronic constipation and acidity but also improves intestinal function. For those who sit for long hours in desk jobs, this asana is also helpful in making the spine flexible and reducing lower back pain.

Helpful in weight loss
This asana is not limited to digestion only. It strengthens the muscles of the pelvic area and reproductive organs. It is especially beneficial for women as it is helpful in eliminating menstrual irregularities. Apart from this, regular exercise also helps in reducing the stubborn fat accumulated around the stomach, thighs and waist.
How to do
It is very simple to do this. Lie on your back on the yoga mat. Taking a deep breath, bend the right knee and bring it near the chest. Hold the knee by interlacing the fingers of the hands. Now while exhaling, lift your head and try to touch your nose with your knees. Repeat the same process with the other leg and then with both legs. It is most beneficial to do it in the morning on an empty stomach.
Although this asana is very safe but avoid doing it if you have high blood pressure, hernia, slipped disc or have recently undergone abdominal surgery. Pregnant women should also not do this asana.
