Statin drugs are used all over the world to keep the heart healthy and reduce bad cholesterol. One of these very famous medicines is Rosuvastatin. Doctors often prescribe it to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke, but recently researchers from America's famous Johns Hopkins University have made a new revelation.

The question at the center of this research is whether this effective medicine is unknowingly creating any trouble for your kidneys? Let us know what the research says...

Actually, this concern is not new. When this drug was first approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) years ago, in some early clinical trials, symptoms like blood and protein in the urine of patients were seen, which are considered early signs of kidney failure. However, it was not looked into deeply at that time. Now researchers have filled this gap by closely analyzing the health data of nearly 9 lakh people, comparing rosuvastatin with another well-known drug, atorvastatin.

The patient may face dialysis or even transplant. The results of this long study, which lasted for three years, show that the risk of kidney-related complications in patients taking rosuvastatin is higher than that of comparative forms. In terms of statistics, the risk of bleeding through urine i.e. hematuria was found to be 8 percent higher and the risk of protein coming out in urine i.e. proteinuria was found to be 17 percent higher in those taking this medicine. The most surprising thing was that among those who were taking high doses of this medicine, the risk of serious conditions like kidney failure increased by 15 percent, where the patient may even face dialysis or transplant.

Another important aspect revealed in the research is that sometimes heavy doses of Rosuvastatin were being given to those patients whose kidneys were already weak, which could be risky in terms of health standards. On the other hand, the interesting thing is that in terms of protection from heart diseases Rosuvastatin and atorvastatin Both have proven equally effective. In such a situation, experts believe that it is very important to keep the kidney health of the patient in mind while choosing medicines. This research warns that as important as it is to control cholesterol, it is equally important that the treatment method does not burden other parts of the body.
