New Delhi: Due to the war between America, Israel, and Iran, every country in the world is facing a fuel crisis. Nepal has also been affected by this. Due to the severe shortage of petrol and diesel in neighboring Nepal, the Balen Shah government has taken a major decision. To deal with this crisis, the government has decided to declare two days a week as holidays. According to the government, government offices and educational institutions will have weekly holidays on Saturday and Sunday.

According to Nepal government spokesperson and Education Minister Sasmit Pokharel, the government has also changed office hours to 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. He said this decision was made due to fuel supply problems, and the new system will be implemented starting Monday. The government’s cabinet meeting approved this decision in light of the petroleum shortage. He added that discussions were also held on converting old petrol and diesel vehicles to electric ones, and that the necessary legal arrangements would be put in place to facilitate this conversion.

What is the government’s objective?
Sasmit Pokharel said that the Cabinet meeting held on Sunday decided to remove the necessary legal hurdles and direct the relevant authorities to make appropriate arrangements. This decision was taken with the aim of protecting the environment and reducing fuel consumption. Currently, vehicle owners were facing many problems when converting old fuel-powered vehicles to electric due to the lack of clear legal framework regarding registration, renewal, and technical standards.

Electric vehicles will reduce fuel dependence.
Spokesperson Pokhrel stated that the necessary legal arrangements will be made to convert diesel and petrol vehicles to electric vehicles. This will reduce fuel dependence on one hand and promote the use of renewable energy in Nepal on the other. Pokhrel stated that the government has taken this decision in light of the current crisis. In the future, when these clouds of crisis clear, petrol and diesel vehicle owners will also find relief. However, given this crisis, the government’s focus is on electric vehicles.
