On July 5, 2025, during Anime Expo in Los Angeles, CD Projekt RED announced Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, a standalone sequel to the original series. The new series will consist of 10 episodes, produced by CD Projekt RED and Studio TRIGGER, and will be set within the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. The show will stream exclusively on Netflix.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2: Latest updates on release date

As of April 2026, no exact release date has been defined. Production has begun, but is still in active development. It is expected to be a very high-quality animated feature, so there is speculation that it may be released sometime in either “late 2026” or “2027.” The timeline for both TRIGGER and the original show (from the original show was multi-year, which would support this speculation.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2: Cast details

It features an entirely new cast of characters—no return for David Martinez or Lucy Kushinada as leads. Voice actors remain unannounced.

• Director: Kai Ikarashi (animator from the first season, SSSS.Gridman).
• Showrunner, Story Writer & Producer: Bartosz Sztybor (Hugo Award-winner).
• Character Designer: Ichigo Kanno.

Original director Hiroyuki Imaishi is involved in an advisory capacity.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2: Story

This is a whole other story; it is not a sequel to Season 1’s end, which was sad. It will tell a RAW story of Redemption & Revenge that is darker, Sadder, Bloodier, and more realistic than Season 1. This will take us to completely different extremes within the Very Dark and Brutal Reality of Night City, as well as have High Stakes Action and Greater Emotional Impact. Tagline: “David is dead. Night City, however, lives on”.

Expect TRIGGER to create its signature, over-the-top, smooth animation with a more Realistic, Gritty Tone. Updates will be provided through the channels of CDPR and/or via Netflix. The Hype is REAL; Night City is NOT DONE YET.
