New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar scripted history and became the first pacer to reach 200 wickets in IPL history. He also became the second bowler in the IPL to reach the milestone after Yuzvendra Chahal.
The pacer needed just 1 wicket to achieve the massive feat in theIPL 2026 clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings, and reached the feat by removing Ayush Mhatre on the second ball of his first over in CSK’s innings, during a 251-run chase.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar creates historyIn the list of fast bowlers with the most wickets in the league’s history, Bhuvneshwar is followed by Jasprit Bumrah and Dwayne Bravo. Bumrah has picked up 183 wickets in 147 matches after making his IPL debut for the Mumbai Indians in 2013, whereas the West Indian all-rounder took 183 wickets in 161 games while playing for three franchises – Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Lions.

Bhuvneshwar made his IPL debut in 2011, and his best season was in 2017 when he took 26 wickets. In the ongoing season, he has picked up 2 wickets so far. Bhuvneshwar has also played for Pune Warriors and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
He is the only bowler to win back-to-back Purple Caps, picking up 23 wickets in 2016 and 26 in 2017. He also took 17 wickets last year and played a crucial role in RCB’s title-winning campaign.
Most wickets in IPLOverall, he is the second bowler to take 200 wickets in IPL. PBKS spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was the first to achieve the milestone. As of now, he has picked up 224 wickets in 176 IPL matches. KKR all-rounder Sunil Narine is second on this list with 193 wickets in 191 matches.
