Practice cancelled in Eden Gardens; Rain threats in Kolkata in PBKS vs KKR encounter on Monday
Cricket Gully | April 6, 2026 3:39 AM CST

Kolkata has been having persistent clouds since the morning today and even had a brief heavy shower in the afternoon. However, even though no rain showed after that, Eden Gardens decided to stay covered, which canceled out the practice session of the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Punjab Kings. There were patches of water visible on the ground.

KKR, at this point, have lost both the matches they played in the 2026 Indian Premier League. While a shared point won't affect PBKS much, who won both of the two, it will hurt KKR, who are desperately looking for a win.

How can rain affect the KKR vs PBKS match in Kolkata?

According to Accuweather, there is a chance of 57% precipitation in Kolkata. This indicates that the teams can expect showers to visit during the play. PTI earlier reported that Kolkata is experiencing low pressure stretching from Bihar to Manipur, covering areas of North Bengal, Assam, and Bangladesh.

Thunderstorms are expected till Thursday, which thus will likely affect KKR's next fixture in Kolkata against the Lucknow Super Giants. The peak is expected to be on Tuesday and Wednesday, though. the PTI report added,

“The weather is expected to turn more severe on Tuesday, when Kalbaishakhi storms accompanied by winds of 50-60 km/h, lightning, and rain are likely to impact Kolkata and adjoining areas."

What will happen if rain affects the match?

In case the match gets abandoned without a ball being bowled, both teams will retreat with a point each. However, the final call of toss will be taken on 10:46 pm and not later than that. The match has to start on or before 10:56 pm to have both teams play five overs each for a result.

For the fans, who purchased the tickets, refunds will be generated to their original account if the match is abandoned without a ball being bowled.

The 2025 rewind

The 2026 IPL conditions at this point are giving a déjà vu to what happened last year in Kolkata between the same. Even though fans witnessed some of the game, it was abandoned with the teams sharing points.

The match started on time. Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings roared high to 201 runs, losing 4 wickets. But the second innings was curtailed to 7 runs from KKR before it was finally called off.
