New Delhi: Pacer Mohammed Shami delivered a stunning bowling performance in LSG’s five-wicket victory against SRH in IPL 2026 on Sunday, April 5. He picked up two wickets by removing dangerous openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma cheaply.

Shami struggled to perform in IPL 2025 with Sunrisers Hyderabad after returning from injury. He picked up just 6 wickets in 9 matches with a high economy rate of 11.23. So far, he has taken three wickets in the two matches at an economy rate 4.63.

“If you want to play, it’s important to be in touch with the game. If you’re fit only then can you work on your skills. That’s why I kept in touch with the game and played all the domestic games,” Shami said.

‘I am not a machine. My season can go up and down’

Shami last played for India in the 2025 Champions Trophy final against New Zealand. He wasn’t picked in the squad after that despite doing consistently well in domestic cricket. The pacer further added he’s not a machine and his season can go up and down, but he has performed well in the last few years.

“I am not a machine. My season can go up and down. I have performed well in the last few years. People have not noticed, that’s different. But I always try to do well,” Shami said in the post-match press conference.

He also praised bowling coach Bharat Arun and said that they have worked together in the Indian team for a long time and have a good understanding with each other.

“I do my work and try and leave the rest to Allah. See, whether it is IPL or any good platform, you definitely need to work on skill. So now it depends on how hard you are working on the new ball and on the old ball,” he added.

LSG lost their season opener against Delhi Capitals by 6 wickets, and Shami said that the team needed to bounce back strongly after suffering a defeat.

“I’m happy. We lost our last game, winning this game was key to build momentum,” he said.

LSG will next face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens on April 9.
