Hrithik Roshan supports the makers amid criticism over VFX of Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana film. He said that VFX is not just a technology but a part of the story and style and should not be linked to looking photorealistic.
Ramayana: Ever since the release of the teaser of Ranbir Kapoor’s film Ramayana, there has been criticism on social media regarding the VFX i.e. visual effects of the film. Many people are calling it bad and not looking real. Now Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan has reacted on this. Supporting the makers of the film, he wrote that VFX is not just a technology but a part of the story and style and cannot be judged only on the basis of whether it looks real or photorealistic.
Hrithik said in his post that while criticizing VFX in films, the audience should understand that every film has its own style. He also said that sometimes even a small technical mistake can confuse the audience, but it does not mean that the entire film is bad.
Hrithik told about his passion for VFX
Hrithik Roshan told in his post that he has always had a deep love for VFX. He said that during a trip to London at the age of 11, he saw the film ‘Back to the Future’, which changed his life forever. He pause-played each frame on a VHS player and tried to understand VFX through months of study and experience.
Hrithik also revealed that he had ordered a book titled ‘Industrial Light and Magic – The Art of Special Effects’ from ‘Reader’s Digest’ with his pocket money and waited for its arrival for months. This book completely inspired him towards VFX and cinema.
Support for the makers of Ramayana
Hrithik Roshan said that he supports the makers of the film. He wrote that some filmmakers, like those who made films like Ramayana, Baahubali and Kalki, try to give some new experience to the audience due to their hard work and passion. He said that the makers put all their money and years of hard work at stake so that the audience feels what he felt.
Hrithik told that this passion for making films is also influenced by his father, who made successful films like ‘Koi Mil Gaya’ and ‘Krrish’. According to him, the aim of the makers is not just to tell the story but to create an entire world and immerse the audience in it.
Different styles of VFX
Hrithik wrote that the VFX style of every film is different. He told that some films are photorealistic, where the VFX looks absolutely real, like films like James Bond, Die Hard or War. At the same time, some films adopt stylish VFX, which are more magical and painting-like. Giving examples, he said that this style can be seen in films like ‘300’ and ‘Lord of the Rings’.
Hrithik clarified that it is wrong to say that the VFX of Ramayana are bad. He said that the film did not promise any photorealistic style but instead adopted a storybook style, and should be judged accordingly.
comparison with hollywood movies

Referring to Hollywood experiences, Hrithik wrote that even in Hollywood, there are different techniques and styles of VFX. Movies with photorealistic VFX look absolutely real, while movies with stylish VFX are used to make the story fun and colorful. He said that some people like photorealistic style and some like stylish VFX, but both are fine.
Hrithik said that VFX is not just a technology but a part of the story. If the style fits the story and makes the viewer feel, then it is successful.
Even small mistakes in a film can seem big
Hrithik said that even a small mistake in VFX can confuse the viewer. He told that a small mistake in physics or gravity can spoil the entire experience. But that doesn’t mean the film or VFX are bad. He wrote that before criticizing, one should see whether the style and experience promised by the film was fulfilled or not.
Hrithik also said that if the audience is saying that the VFX don’t look real, then maybe it’s just not what they expected. He said that the audience should ask whether the film is true to the story and experience and whether it is giving the feeling that the makers wanted.
Story in VFX of Ramayana
Hrithik clarified that the purpose of VFX in a film like Ramayana is not just to look real but to make the story impactful and magical. He wrote that the makers of the film have adopted a storybook style, and this style is designed to completely immerse the audience in the story.
