Many shopping centres across the UK have struggled in recent years, with some suffering from empty units or closing down. Some have even been demolished and turned into something completely different. But that's not the case everywhere.
There is one shopping centre in the UK that is doing the complete opposite. As of 2026, it still attracts millions of visitors every year and is home to hundreds of big and exciting brands. In fact, it is the biggest shopping centre in Europe.
That place is Westfield London, located in White City in west London.
The shopping centre was developed by the Westfield Group at a reported cost of £1.6bn on a former brownfield site that once hosted the 1908 Franco-British Exhibition.
Since opening in 2008, it has grown into the largest shopping and leisure destination in the UK and across continental Europe, covering 242,000 square metres and housing 476 stores.
It sits in one of London's biggest regeneration areas and has played a huge role in the development of the surrounding neighbourhood.
The shopping centre is famous for housing flagship stores for many global brands. There are also more than 80 restaurants, cafés, bars and eateries.
On top of that, the centre includes a number of leisure attractions, such as Exhibition London, a 3,000-capacity venue, as well as bowling, indoor climbing, roller skating and virtual reality experiences.
Events take place throughout the year, with both indoor and outdoor spaces used for activities such as film screenings, sporting events and seasonal celebrations.
Westfield London also offers a number of community services, including a public library, blood donation units and support schemes for visitors with additional needs.
Since opening, the centre has attracted more than half a billion visitors and generated around £18billion in sales.
Westfield London is home to a plethora of shops. There are big department stores such as John Lewis, Marks & Spencer and Primark, as well as luxury brands including Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Prada.
There are also high street favourites like Zara, H&M and Uniqlo, as well as sports retailers including Nike and Adidas.
Technology stores, beauty brands, homeware shops and a range of services are also available throughout the centre.
There are 5,200 parking spaces at the shopping centre, but the best way to get there is by using the underground (White City or Shepherd's Bush stations on the Central line).
