Ashok Sharma Story: IPL is the stage where players are made. Where his talent gets recognized. Ashok Sharma, playing for Gujarat Titans, is also one such player. Even though Gujarat Titans had to face defeat in the match played against Rajasthan Royals on 4th April, Ashok Sharma did not lag behind in leaving his impact in that match. He made the biggest impact with the fastest ball he ever bowled, the speed of which was estimated at 154.7 km/h. He made his name among the bowlers who bowled the fastest ball in IPL history. Ashok Sharma's strength is his speed, his accuracy, in which he looks very consistent.
Had left cricket to do a government job
However, it was not easy for Ashok Sharma, who is making his impact in IPL 2026, to reach here. This is the same player who had decided to leave cricket 3 years ago and take up a government job. Seeing that he was not getting opportunities at the U-23 level, he started preparing for the examinations for government jobs. He started helping his father in the fields. But, at the same time, talent hunt became a lifeline for the cricket career of this farmer's son.
A ball thrown in a slipper changed the world
When Ashok Sharma, who had made up his mind to quit cricket, suddenly came to know about that talent hunt, he decided to take part in it. However, the problem arose when he missed the registration to participate in that talent hunt. Ashok Sharma then somehow convinced the organizer of that talent hunt for 1 ball. He begged them to just let him have one ball.
The organizers of the talent hunt accepted Ashok Sharma's request and gave him a chance to bowl one ball. When he got the chance, Ashok Sharma was in slippers. He was not even wearing shoes. But, not caring about it, he decided to throw the ball in slippers only. Wearing slippers, Ashok Sharma bowled that ball at a speed of 140 KM/H and then his world turned upside down.
Record broken in SMAT 2025-26
Ashok Sharma, who was thinking of leaving cricket and joining a government job, never looked back after that one incident. He took the maximum of 22 wickets in 10 matches played in the group stage of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26 and with this he broke the record of most wickets in the group stage of the tournament which has been maintained for decades.
Nehra ji's confidence, will Team India give a chance?
He has got a chance to debut in IPL 2026, where he has defeated the opposing batsmen with his real strength and speed. Reaching a new level of speed with every match. The way Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra has expressed confidence in Ashok Sharma. After that, don't be surprised if there are talks of his entry in Team India also.
