Shailesh Chandra, MD & CEO of the company said, “PV industry sales are expected to reach around 4.7 million units this year, representing a growth of 8% year-on-year. The industry made a strong comeback in the second half of the year to register double-digit growth, supported by the implementation of GST 2.0 and strong demand during the festive season. Consumer preference for eco-friendly technologies increased, with sales of CNG vehicles growing at around 20% YoY, while EVs grew at around 20% YoY. Sales crossed the 2 lakh unit mark, driven by increased consumer confidence in EVs and new product launches from all major OEMs.
FY26 turned out to be a historic year for Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, achieving several milestones. We recorded our highest ever annual sales of over 6.4 lakh units, representing an industry-high 15% year-on-year growth. We reached the second position in the industry in terms of vehicle registrations during the half-year. International sales exceeded 10,000 units due to its re-entry into South Africa. In the CNG segment, our eco-friendly powertrain led to over 1.7 lakh sales (24% YoY growth). We further strengthened our leadership in the EV segment and recorded sales of over 92,000 units with a year-on-year growth of 43%. In the fourth quarter of FY26, we achieved our highest ever quarterly sales by crossing the 2 lakh units mark, representing a 37% YoY growth. The quarter also saw a record performance in EV sales, with around 27,000 units sold (69% year-on-year growth).
Nexon and Punch were the best-selling SUV models in the first half, underlining the strength of our SUV portfolio. Higher than industry growth in the hatchback segment reflects consumer preference. The Sierra, facelifted Punch as well as the petrol versions of the Harrier and Safari are getting a good response from customers, which is reflected in bookings, inquiries and deliveries.
The growth in the SUV, CNG and EV segment is expected to sustain the momentum of the industry going forward. At the same time, it will be necessary to keep an eye on geo-political developments. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles also looks forward to achieving industry-leading growth in the first half of FY27 based on strong momentum, supported by a pipeline of new products and a multi-powertrain strategy.”
