Puducherry Elections: Vijay Thalapathy, entering the politics of Puducherry in a filmy style just before the elections, has made such a move which has suddenly made the contest interesting. The statements were sharp, the promises were big – and the style was completely star-like. Before the Puducherry Assembly elections 2026 to be held on April 9, Vijay made a direct attack on both the big alliances. While he described the Congress-DMK alliance as a “confused alliance”, he termed the BJP alliance as a “tired alliance”. He says that despite being in power for years, these parties have not been able to give full statehood status to Puducherry till date.

Vijay’s style in the rally was completely filmy. Appealing to the public to vote for his party’s ‘whistle’ election symbol, he described it as a “one finger revolution”—like a dialogue from a movie, but this time on the political stage. But the real game was seen in his promises. Vijay announced that if his party comes to power, every family will be given health insurance of up to Rs 25 lakh. Along with this, a promise was also made to provide up to 200 units of free electricity to poor families. In the field of education, he talked about setting up “Puducherry University of Applied Sciences and Arts”.

Vijay did not stop here. He clearly said that if his government is formed, every effort will be made to free Puducherry from the interference of the Lieutenant Governor and give it the status of a full state. Also promised to conduct local body elections within six months. Vijay’s entry into the electoral arena and his aggressive statements have now heated up the entire atmosphere. Big promises on one side, direct attack on alliances on the other side – now it will be interesting to see how much the public likes this “filmy politics”.
