Every year mountaineers go on a thrilling expedition to conquer Mount Everest. Many people got sick in that campaign. This time, the allegations of a multi-million dollar ‘deadly’ deadly scam against a group of trekking guides have come up in the investigation of the Nepal Police. Allegedly, the mountaineers are found sick in remote areas by deliberately adulterating the food and looking for extra income. According to Nepal Police investigation, this cycle was active from 2022 to 2025! Initial reports are that a group of guides, helicopter companies and hospital officials are involved.
According to the police investigation, the accused guides used to mix substances like baking soda in the food! If it aggravated digestive problems, mountaineers would become ill. Sick mountaineers were afraid of death due to illness in the snow-covered area at a height of about 8,000 meters. Helicopters were arranged for their emergency landing! The gang then took advantage of the situation to increase the cost of rescue operations, investigators told the media. Where a helicopter rescue would normally cost around $4,000, insurance companies were allegedly billed up to $12,000. In some cases, multiple passengers in a single rescue copter were charged separately. When this information came to the fore, there was panic among the mountaineers.
Statistics show that many climbers died in the Everest expedition. 2023 was one of the deadliest years in Everest’s history. 18 people lost their lives that year. A recent investigation revealed a huge scandal. The question arises, wasn’t there a conspiracy on the part of the trekking guides behind the increasing death rate? Police officials investigating the incident told the media that some hospitals are also involved in the scandal! Those hospitals used fake medical records and unauthorized digital signatures! Allegedly, in one case, fake reports were made using old X-ray images. So far, more than 30 people have been charged in the investigation. Information is emerging that there has been a fraud of billions of dollars.
