When you say Thailand, blue frozen water floats in front of your eyes. And the silver shelf. But when the sun goes down, another Maya game begins. As soon as the darkness falls, a miraculous blue light wakes up in the waves of the sea. It is as if a handful of stars have fallen from the sky into the blue ocean. In the language of science it is called ‘bioluminescent plankton’. But this is a magic trick for tourists, which is now crowding the secluded beaches of Thailand.
Behind this blue light are some very small creatures of the sea. Their name is plankton. Whenever the water is stirred by the splash of waves or the touch of human feet, they emit blue light from their bodies. Although it is called ‘Sea Sparkle’ in scientific terms, visually it looks like a magician has lit a blue lamp under the sea. Seeing that light dancing through the darkness, it seems like nature has opened its jewelry box.

Address the best beaches to see plankton
This view is most magical on certain beaches in Thailand. Krabi is world famous for its Railay Beach. The surrounding massive limestone mountains block out artificial light from the outside world. As a result, the brightness of plankton increases many times in the dark. The nearby Ton Sai Beach is less crowded, so you can enjoy this natural light in solitude. A night boat ride through the secluded coves of Ko Phi Phi will feel like you’ve stepped into a blue dreamland. In addition, this blue light can also be seen in the cave and mangrove forest area of Phang Nga Bay adjacent to Phuket.

Best time to visit
Generally November to April is the busiest time to visit Thailand. But to see the real magic, you have to choose the new moon night. Between January and March, the sky is completely cloudless. When there is no moonlight, this blue color of the sea becomes more brilliant and mysterious.
