Around 360 people collapse and die every day in India, a figure likened to a “jumbo jet crash daily,” highlighting the urgent need for public awareness and timely medical intervention.
CPR can save lives in critical moments
Dr Shalini Nalwad, Chairperson of the ICATT Air Ambulance Foundation, stressed that many lives can be saved with immediate action during emergencies.
She emphasised that cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a simple yet powerful technique that can significantly increase survival chances during cardiac arrest.
Every second counts
According to experts, the first few minutes after a cardiac arrest are critical. Immediate CPR can maintain blood flow to the brain and vital organs until professional medical help arrives.
Dr Nalwad, who has reportedly performed CPR over 55,000 times, highlighted that anyone—not just medical professionals—can learn and perform CPR effectively.
Building a life-saving culture
The expert urged citizens to equip themselves with basic life-saving skills. Increasing awareness and training in CPR can empower communities to respond quickly in emergencies, potentially preventing thousands of deaths each year.
Call for public awareness
Health professionals continue to advocate for CPR training in schools, workplaces, and public spaces to ensure more people are prepared to act in life-threatening situations.
The message remains clear: timely intervention and basic knowledge can mean the difference between life and death.
