Spiritual Travel Trend: Interest in spiritual travels is increasing day by day among Indian families. According to Make My Trip’s “India Travel Trends Report”, there has been an increase of 585% in searches for Ayodhya, 343% in searches for Badrinath and 359% increase in searches for Ujjain in 2023 as compared to the previous year.
The report states that the frequency of travel has also increased. There has been a 25% increase in the number of trips taken more than three times per year compared to 2019. Apart from this, the trend of last minute flight booking has seen a 46% increase.

Important points of India Travel Trends Report

Domestic Travel: Interest in spiritual travel has increased in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. Searches for religious places have increased by 97% in the last 2 years.

Weekend Trips: Ooty, Munnar, Jim Corbett are becoming quite popular for short trips. Compared to 2022, searches for Jim Corbett have increased by 131% in 2023.

International Travel: Bangkok, Dubai and Singapore are famous top destinations for short distance international travel from India while Toronto, London and New York are famous for long destination travel.

Family and solo travel – Family travel bookings have increased by 64% in 2023. This is significantly higher than solo travel bookings. Solo travel bookings have increased by 23%.

Half of all domestic flight bookings are made between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm. Domestic flight bookings are mostly made at the last minute, while international bookings are made well in advance. One-third of these are made more than a month before travel.

Domestic hotel bookings are done closer to the date of travel. Nowadays, people are increasingly interested in options like hostels and apartments.

Payment Trends and Gift Cards

Almost 40% of the bookings are being done through UPI payment method. This shows that this payment method is convenient for the travelers. As far as international travel bookings are concerned, which are high value transactions, credit cards are being given travel preference. The report also talks about the popularity of travel gift cards, especially for weddings.

Maharashtra has the highest number of domestic hotel searches giving preference to villas.
More than half of the people booked domestic hotels with breakfast. Only rooms at international level are given preference.

Tendency to book flights more than 3 months in advance.
