Taking a big step, the police have arrested YouTuber Akramul Bagani, one of the main accused, in the case of violence in Malda, West Bengal and taking judicial officers hostage. The action was taken on Friday (April 3), a day after an angry mob surrounded officials inside the BDO office for hours.
According to the police, Akarmul Bagani runs a YouTube channel named ‘Insaf News’, where he allegedly posts inflammatory and provocative videos. Investigation has revealed that he played a role in provoking people in Malda and creating an environment for violence.
According to reports, Akarmul shared videos through social media in which people were instigated against the Special Voter Revaluation (SIR) process of the Election Commission. Tension increased in the area regarding this issue and later the situation turned violent. It is being told that Akarmul is also to AIMIM leader Mofakkarul Islam, who has already been accused of instigating the mob.
Allegations of association with TMC also
After the arrest, a picture of Akarmul is going viral on social media, in which he is seen with Trinamool Congress leader and West Bengal Transport Minister Snehasish Chakraborty. However, there has been no official confirmation or comment regarding this picture.
Let us tell you that the angry mob had taken 8 judicial officers hostage for about 9 hours in the BDO office of Malda. The incident occurred during the SIR process, when officials were hearing cases to the voter list. This incident has raised serious questions on the law and order and election security arrangements of the state.
Investigation continues, more arrests possible
Police say that the investigation of the case is going on and action will be taken soon after identifying other accused. According to officials, the role of social media and inflammatory content is also being investigated in depth. This arrest is considered important in the Malda violence, which is expected to expose the entire network and layers of conspiracy.
