EU President Ursula Von Der warns – Stability of global economy in danger due to Iran’s attacks

Brussels, April 2. European Commission (EU) President Ursula von der Leyen spoke on phone with British Prime Minister Kier Starmer. Both the leaders discussed tensions in West Asia. Along with this, he warned about the danger of global economic instability.

Ursula von der Leyen wrote on the social media platform X, ‘Had a good conversation with Kier Starmer. We talked about the situation in the Middle East and the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s actions are endangering global economic stability. We will work with our partners to ensure that freedom of navigation can resume as soon as possible.

The EU President further wrote, ‘We also talked about the upcoming EU-UK summit. This is an important moment to fulfill last year’s commitments and further strengthen our partnership.

Britain to host a virtual summit on the Strait of Hormuz

In addition, the UK will host a virtual summit on the Strait of Hormuz, where representatives from 35 countries will gather to consider diplomatic and political options for reopening this vital waterway. This meeting is taking place at a time when US President Donald Trump has criticized his European allies and asked them to start learning to fight for themselves.

British PM Starmer announced

UK Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper will host a meeting that will bring together all countries for the first time to consider and draw conclusions on concerns to the Strait of Hormuz, UK PM Starmer announced on Wednesday. “All countries will look at all possible diplomatic and political measures they can take to resume freedom of navigation.”

Britain will continue to work with the US on this initiative

A British official told American media CNN that Britain will continue to work with the US on this initiative, which also brings together other key partners including the Gulf Cooperation Council. Starmer said that military planners will also be called to this summit to see how we can prepare our capabilities after the conflict is over and how to make the Strait easier and safer. However, PM Starmer has also warned that ‘it will not be easy.’
