New Delhi. The Foreign Contribution Regulation Amendment Bill 2026 created a political storm on Wednesday. Several opposition MPs strongly criticized the proposed FCRA Amendment Bill and accused the Center of trying to centralize control over institutions as well as legalize bulldozer raj. Speaking to the media outside Parliament, Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav said that the purpose of bringing this bill is to impose uniformity in both government and non-government sectors. He said that the government wants that whether it is a government institution or a non-government institution, everything should run according to them. That is why this amendment bill is being brought.

Congress MP JB Mather said the FCRA amendment bill being introduced by the government is a clear example of legalizing the bulldozer raj. SP MP Ram Gopal Yadav also criticized the government’s legislative approach, claiming that the bills brought under the current regime give priority to corporate interests rather than public welfare. He said that all the bills brought by this government till now have been against the people of the country. Every bill brought so far has been in favor of some capitalists. Not a single bill has been in the interest of the public. He dismissed the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment (FCRA) Bill 2026 as a ploy to extort huge sums of money from the public in the name of welfare. He alleged that he would extort money from people in the name of regulation. The bill became the main center of debate as opposition MPs also protested at the Makar Gate of Parliament today demanding withdrawal of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill 2026.
Congress MP Hibi Eden called it a draconian law that could affect minorities and NGOs across the country. This bill signals strong opposition to the legislation aimed at amending foreign funding rules. Eden said that this is a very strict law which will not only harm the interests of minorities but will also hinder the work of many NGOs running in India. We will strongly condemn and oppose it vigorously. We will demand withdrawal of this bill.
