Datia. Congress has suffered a major setback in the politics of Madhya Pradesh. Congress MLA from Datia Rajendra Bharti has been convicted by a court in corruption and fraud cases. While hearing this case, the Special MP/MLA Court of Delhi has found him guilty and ordered to send him to Tihar Jail. The court will announce the punishment period the next day.

This matter pertains to District Cooperative Agricultural Rural Development Bank, Datia. It is alleged that Rajendra Bharti, while being the Chairman of the bank, committed irregularities in Fixed Deposit (FD) by preparing fake documents and manipulating records. He violated the rules and took unfair advantage of the high interest rate of 13.5 percent and caused a loss of lakhs of rupees to the bank by illegally extending the tenure of the FD.

The court has found Rajendra Bharti guilty under several serious sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including sections 420 (cheating), 467, 468, 471 (fake documents), 409 (criminal breach of trust) and 120B (criminal conspiracy). In this case he had already failed to get relief from the High Court and the Supreme Court.
