Taiwanese travelers lead Asia in culinary-driven tourism, with nearly half citing food as their primary motivation for travel, according to online travel platform Agoda.
Its 2026 Travel Outlook survey found that 47% of respondents from Taiwan prioritize food experiences when planning trips, placing them ahead of other Asian markets.
Vietnamese travelers ranked second, with 35% highlighting a strong interest in exploring diverse and flavorful cuisines abroad.
South Korean travelers placed third in the rankings, followed by those from Malaysia and Japan, based on responses from 3,353 participants across nine Asian markets.
Agoda said the results underscore Taiwan’s deep-rooted food culture and the central role gastronomy plays in shaping travel behavior among its residents.
Taiwan is globally recognized for its dynamic street food scene, particularly in Taipei’s famous night markets such as Shilin and Raohe.
Popular local specialties include oyster omelets, stinky tofu, braised pork belly buns and pearl milk tea.
