Punjab Police: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann today flagged off 508 Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs) in Sangrur to strengthen grassroots policing across the state. He said that the Punjab government will now provide police assistance in just six minutes on the lines of developed countries like America and Europe.

Immediate assistance in emergency situations

These vehicles equipped with state-of-the-art technology will be deployed in all 28 police districts under the Dial-112 service, which will ensure immediate assistance in emergency situations. This step is an important initiative towards speedy and technology-based law enforcement.

Investment of Rs 327.70 crore

The Chief Minister said that during the last four years, an investment of Rs 327.70 crore has been made for police vehicles, which has not only modernized the police force but also strengthened law and order. Besides, strict action has also been taken against drug smugglers.

He said that better security increases investor confidence, a clear example of which is the investment being made by Tata Steel to set up its second largest plant in Punjab.

Addiction has ruined generations

Addressing the gathering in Sangrur, the Chief Minister said, “To completely eliminate the drug menace from Punjab, it is necessary to carry out social boycott of those involved in drug trade as a last resort.” He said that no leniency should be shown to those who have ruined generations. “Such elements will have to be taught a lesson and their social boycott will play an important role in taking Punjab out of the quagmire of drugs.”

War against drugs continues

Underscoring the government’s strict action, he said, “The Punjab government has already tightened the noose against the drug trade and the conviction rate in such cases has reached 87 per cent, which is much higher than any other state.” He said that the “War on Drugs” is proving to be the biggest ever action against the drug network in Punjab, under which the backbone of this illicit trade has been broken by breaking the supply chain and arresting big smugglers.

Strict action is being taken against smugglers

The Chief Minister said that a comprehensive and multi-dimensional strategy has been prepared to convert this campaign into a mass movement with public support. He said that unlike the previous governments, the present government has ensured strict action against smugglers instead of giving protection to them. He said, “Our fight is for the safety of the young generation of Punjab and it will continue.”

Punjab Police is fighting bravely

Speaking on ‘Drug Terrorism’, he said that Punjab Police is actively combating cross-border drug smuggling and ensuring the safety of citizens while boldly confronting the enemy forces.

Referring to the administrative reforms, he said that for the first time, access has been ensured at the grassroots level, under which vehicles are now being provided not only to senior officers but also up to the SHO level of police stations.

Tata Steel’s investment in Punjab

On the relationship between law and order and economic confidence, he said that the biggest measure of law and order in a state is the investment there and Tata Steel’s investment in Punjab is a direct proof of this. He said that Punjab is becoming one of the safest states in the country and the credit for this goes to the Punjab Police, which has reduced the distance between the public and the police.

Punjab government ensures safety on highways

Highlighting the reforms in the field of road safety, the Chief Minister said that the Punjab Government has launched the country’s first dedicated road safety force to ensure safety on the highways and save precious lives. With 1,597 trained personnel and 144 modern vehicles, the force is deployed on 4,200 km of accident-prone highways and has led to a 48 per cent reduction in deaths in road accidents. This initiative has also been appreciated by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

Green flag shown to 508 vehicles

Talking about modernization of police, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that today 508 new Bolero vehicles are being flagged off under the Emergency Response Vehicle initiative. With this, the total number of vehicles in Dial-112 fleet has increased to 764. All these vehicles are equipped with modern technologies like GPS tracker, dash camera and mobile data system. Explaining the improved efficiency, he said that around 15,000 calls are received daily on Dial-112, out of which vehicles are immediately dispatched to around 1,500 calls and the response time has been reduced from 30-45 minutes to 13-14 minutes.

Previous governments allocated very little money

The Chief Minister said that previous governments had allocated very little funds for police welfare, while the present government has purchased 2,904 new vehicles by investing Rs 327.69 crore in four years till 2022. He said that now every police station has at least one new vehicle available.

Electric scooters were also made available

Regarding strengthening of special units, the Chief Minister said that 22 Mahindra Scorpio vehicles have been provided to ANTF and electric scooters have also been provided for the safety and mobility of women. He further announced that a provision of Rs 11.45 crore has been made for the purchase of more vehicles in the year 2026-27.

Punjab is known for peace

The Chief Minister said that Punjab has seen difficult times of terrorism in the past, but due to the sacrifices of the police force, peace has been established in the state and today Punjab is known for its peace. He said that despite being a border state, Punjab Police is performing its responsibilities with full devotion.

Consideration of undergrounding power lines

Referring to future plans, he said that soon Artificial Intelligence will be used in the police system, which will make policing more effective. Referring to the interests of farmers, he said the government is considering the possibility of undergrounding high-tension power lines passing through agricultural land, which will reduce the risk to farmers and their crops.

Advertisement issued for 3,298 new posts

Regarding recruitment, he said that from the year 2022 till now, 12,197 recruitments have been made in Punjab Police and further recruitment process is going on. Advertisement has been issued for 1,746 constables and 3,298 new posts in March 2026.

More than 65,000 government jobs

Reiterating his commitment towards transparent governance, the Chief Minister said that public tax money is being used with full responsibility for development works. He said free electricity to 90 per cent of households, more than 65,000 government jobs without corruption, better roads and saving of Rs 70 lakh per day by closing toll plazas – all these are proof of honest governance.

Reforms in health, power and agriculture sectors

He said that while other political parties focus only on gaining power, his government is paying special attention to reforms in education, health, power and agriculture sectors. He said that the people have rejected opportunistic politics and have elected a government which is working in their interest.

Dreams of returning to power by confusing the public

Taking aim at the opposition leadership, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that some leaders are dreaming of returning to power by misleading the public, but people are well aware of their record. He also said that even late Prakash Singh Badal had never handed over the entire leadership responsibility to Sukhbir Singh Badal. On this occasion, Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, Barinder Goyal, DGP Gaurav Yadav and other dignitaries were present.
