What did KitKat say?
“We can confirm that 12 tons of KitKat products were stolen while in transit from our factory in central Italy to their destination in Poland,” KitKat said in a post. We are working closely with local authorities and supply chain partners to investigate. The good news is that there is no concern regarding the safety of customers, and there has been no impact on supplies. Thank you.
What did the company spokesperson say?
KitKat’s parent company, Nestle, confirmed that the shipment had left its production facility last week, and that the bars were to be distributed across Europe, where they would then reach their final destination. A company spokesperson humorously praised the thieves’ “excellent taste,” while also noting that such problems were becoming common throughout the industry. The theft happened just days before Easter, a time when many people enjoy a ‘chocolate hunt’. This is a tradition in which chocolates are hidden and children find them.
Flood of memes on social media
Amidst the ongoing investigation regarding the theft, there has been a flood of memes on social media. One social media user commented, “This is what happens when your transit people take a break.” Another X user wrote that we have seen all kinds of thefts, but this one has really taken the internet by storm.
