7-year-old son watches horrific crime

Giving details about the chilling developments in the Tronica City double murder case, police revealed that the couple’s seven-year-old son was an eyewitness to the brutal killings. While his formal statement is yet to be recorded, the minor reportedly told police that his father, Rashid (38), retrieved a gun from an almirah around midnight and first shot his long-time colleague and friend Faheem (32), before turning the weapon on his wife, Shabnam (36). After killing them both, Rashid allegedly told his son, “ab sab thik ho jayega” (now everything will be fine), and fled the scene.

An FIR has been registered against Rashid under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, based on a complaint by Faheem’s father. Police teams have launched multiple raids to trace the absconding accused, while efforts are underway to recover the weapon used in the crime and determine whether the murders were premeditated.

Investigations have also revealed that both Rashid and Faheem had prior criminal records. Faheem was previously booked in multiple cases, including attempt to murder, theft, and Arms Act violations, while Rashid had been arrested in a theft case in 2023. DCP (Rural) Surendra Nath Tiwari told TOI that both victims were shot in the head at close range and were declared dead after being rushed to a hospital by neighbours. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and reports are awaited.

Ghaziabad double murder case

Police said the couple had been married for several years and had seven children aged between 1.5 and 20 years. During the initial probe, family members and neighbours disclosed that Shabnam and Faheem had been in a relationship for over two years, leading to escalating tensions at home. The situation worsened after Rashid learned about the alleged affair around the time of their eldest son’s wedding six months ago.

According to officers, Rashid had repeatedly objected to the relationship and asked his wife to end it, but there was no end to the dispute. Almost a week before the murders, Rashid and Faheem also confronted each other over the issue. On Monday evening, Rashid allegedly called Faheem home for dinner, and after believing all his children had gone to bed, confronted him and Shabnam.

Loni ACP Siddharth Gautam said Rashid had already hidden a pistol inside the house. Following dinner, a heated argument broke out between the three. The seven-year-old, who was watching television, entered the room after hearing raised voices and witnessed the shooting. A senior police officer added that Shabnam had been planning to seek a divorce and sell the house she owned, which may have further triggered the deadly attack.
