For the past few days, rumors were spreading on social media that there will be a shortage of LPG cylinders, but according to the latest figures provided by the government, the situation is completely under control.

Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas informed that 1.25 lakh new PNG (piped natural gas) connections have been provided in the last two weeks. Interestingly, 5,600 LPG customers have migrated directly to PNG in the last three days. This migration is being done not only to deal with the crisis, but also to ensure uninterrupted supply to consumers. PNG is gaining popularity in urban areas as there is no need to worry about running out of cylinders or booking.

Status of cylinder delivery and refilling

The government has rejected the claim that there is a shortage of LPG cylinders in the country. According to Sujata Sharma, 5.6 lakh online bookings were made in a single day yesterday and a record 5.5 lakh cylinders were delivered to customers’ doorsteps. 17 state governments have issued orders for commercial LPG and 15 states for additional kerosene allocation. It is a relief that the amount of panic bookings is also gradually decreasing.

Black market and hoarding

The possibility of hoarding or black market of gas cylinders in some places by taking advantage of the war situation cannot be ruled out. To prevent this, the central government has written a strict letter to all the states. Currently, Control Rooms have been established in 31 states and Union Territories. Monitoring Committees have been formed in 25 states under the chairmanship of District Magistrates. If anyone is overcharging or hoarding cylinders, direct legal action has been ordered against them.

Crude oil and refinery status

All refinery plants in India are currently operating normally. There is no shortage of oil at retail outlets (Petrol Pumps). Supply of CNG and domestically produced crude oil continues at 100% without any interruption. The government has clarified that, although the global situation is alarming, India has sufficient reserves. So citizens should trust only the official information without falling prey to any rumours.
