Gurgaon has become the first city in the National Capital Region to introduce an LPG ATM, a smart vending machine that can dispense a lightweight gas cylinder in just two to three minutes.

Installed at Central Park Flower Valley in Sector 33, Sohna, the Bharatgas Insta LPG machine aims to bring automated and contactless LPG distribution to residential areas. The facility arrives at a time when many consumers are looking for faster and more convenient refill options.

LPG ATM Uses Lightweight Composite Cylinders

The LPG ATM dispenses composite LPG cylinders, which are significantly lighter and easier to handle compared to conventional metal cylinders.

Traditional LPG cylinders typically weigh around 31 kg in total with 14 kg of gas, whereas the fibre-based composite version weighs around 15 kg with the same quantity of gas.

As per a TOI report, another advantage of the composite cylinder is its transparent body, allowing users to easily check the gas level without lifting or shaking the cylinder.

LPG ATM Refill Process is Fully Automated

The LPG refill process through the smart machine is entirely digital and automated. Consumers who have a registered Bharatgas composite cylinder connection can access the service through a few simple steps:
  • Enter the registered mobile number on the machine
  • Verify the number using an OTP
  • Scan the barcode or QR code on the empty cylinder
  • Make payment using UPI or a debit card
  • After digital verification, the machine dispenses a filled cylinder while storing the empty one

The entire process typically takes two to three minutes, offering a quick alternative to traditional home delivery.

LPG ATM Alerts Agency When Stock Runs Low

Officials stated that the LPG ATM can store up to 10 cylinders at a time. Once the stock falls to two cylinders, the nearest gas agency automatically receives an alert and replenishes the machine.

Despite the innovative system, a TOI report revealed that only four cylinders have been dispensed so far, largely because many residents remain unaware of the new facility.

LPG ATM Offers Convenience and 24x7 Access

Residents in the area say the biggest benefit of the LPG ATM is the freedom from delivery schedules.

A Central Park resident, Rajiv Kumar, said the machine has made the refill process far more convenient.

“Earlier, we had to plan refills in advance and wait for delivery. Now, a cylinder can be collected in a few minutes at any time. The 24x7 access and simple digital process are especially useful for working families.”

Officials also emphasised that composite cylinders are dust-free, corrosion-free, safer to use and easier to carry compared to traditional iron cylinders.

LPG ATM Pilot Part of BPCL’s Technology Push

The LPG ATM rollout is part of BPCL’s pilot project to test automated LPG dispensing systems in select locations.

According to company officials, the initiative aims to improve accessibility and convenience for consumers while encouraging the adoption of modern composite cylinders.

A company spokesperson said: “We want to offer a quick and reliable refill experience, while also encouraging the use of efficient composite cylinders.”

LPG ATM Likely to Stay Even After Supply Issues Ease

Officials confirmed that the LPG ATM will continue operating even after the current supply pressures ease.

If the pilot proves successful, similar automated LPG dispensing machines could be introduced in more residential areas in the future, transforming how households access cooking gas.
