LPG tanker ‘Nanda Devi’ to arrive at Vadinar Port in Gujarat, carrying 46,000 metric tonnes of gas. Another important breakthrough for India has been achieved as Indian LPG carrier ‘Nanda Devi’ carrying approximately 46,000 MT of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) will arrive at Vadinar Port in Gujarat today. This step has been taken at a time when the ongoing conflict in West Asia has created a crisis in global LPG supply.
This journey of ‘Nanda Devi’ strengthens India’s strategic position and ensures that India continues to receive essential gas supplies, especially when faced with a global LPG shortage. This is the second LPG carrier to successfully pass through the Strait of Hormuz to India, before this ‘Shivalik’ had also passed through the same route and delivered 40,000 metric tonnes of LPG to Mundra Port in Gujarat.
Indian and Iranian navies helped in this initiative
Chief Officer Nanda Devi informed about this important initiative in which Indian and Iranian navies cooperated to transit the Strait of Hormuz. He said, “The vessel has safely transited the Strait of Hormuz and is now en route to Kandla, Gujarat. This huge stock of gas will make a significant contribution to India in the global LPG crisis.”
Earlier on Monday, ‘Shivalik’ had completed its journey at Mundra Port and now a part of it is scheduled for Mangalore.
India’s increasing role in the global LPG crisis
India, which is already a vital part of the global energy supply chain, with this LPG carrier operation is ensuring that the country continues to get the required gas supply. Petroleum Ministry officials say the move will be helpful in ensuring security and supplies to other Indian-flagged ships like ‘Jag Ladki’ passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Indian Navy’s success in the Persian Gulf
There are still 22 Indian flagged ships in the Persian Gulf, with a total of 611 sailors on board. Officials said that Indian naval personnel in all these ships are completely safe and no incident has been reported in the last 24 hours.
Thus, the arrival of ‘Nanda Devi’ at the port and safe passage along with other ships further strengthens India’s contribution to the global supply network, thereby ensuring supply of LPG and other essential supplies in the future.
