Guwahati, March 14: The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has confirmed that there is sufficient LPG inventory to maintain a steady supply for the upcoming 11 to 13 days. However, they acknowledged that customers are experiencing difficulties in placing refill orders due to issues with the online booking system.
IOC’s Chief General Manager (LPG), Amarjyoti Bordoloi, stated on Friday, "There will be no supply issues in the next eleven days as we have ample stock. The government has instructed the four refineries to increase production levels."
Despite this assurance, Bordoloi noted that the online platform has encountered glitches due to a spike in booking requests.
"The ongoing crisis in West Asia has led to a five to seven-fold increase in booking and call volumes. We are working to resolve these issues, and the online system should be operational by this evening or tomorrow," he added.
The four refineries are capable of producing approximately 1100-1200 MT of LPG, which fulfills about 35-40% of the state's needs.
"Assam is in a relatively better position compared to other states, as a significant portion of the demand is satisfied through local production," Bordoloi remarked.
He also reassured that there are no disruptions in LPG imports to the state.
In light of the situation, IOC has urged consumers to utilize alternative booking methods such as WhatsApp, mobile apps, and BBPC platforms, while reminding them that a second booking can only be made 25 days after the previous cylinder's delivery.
Commercial LPG rationing remains in effect, with the government prioritizing supply to essential services like hospitals and educational institutions.
New guidelines have been introduced allowing IOC to provide commercial LPG upon government request, particularly for the food processing sector.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has warned that strict action will be taken against individuals found hoarding cylinders.
"The Chief Secretary reviewed the situation with the District Collectors yesterday. I will also convene a meeting with them tomorrow. Authorities have been instructed to monitor and take action against over-purchasing of LPG. Given the global crisis, we must exercise caution to navigate through this situation," Sarma emphasized.
