06 Mar 2026
The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has achieved a new milestone, crossing 800 million transactions in a single day on March 2.
The feat was recorded by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which operates UPI.
The achievement comes after a strong performance in February when UPI saw an average daily transaction volume of 728 million, up from last year's figure of 575 million.
Rise in transaction value
Value increase
Along with the rise in transaction volume, UPI has also witnessed a jump in daily transaction value.
In February, the average daily transaction value was ₹96,000 crore. This trend is likely to continue into March with an expected target of ₹1 lakh crore worth of daily transactions.
The growth rate for this platform remains high at 27% despite a slowdown from last year's year-on-year (YoY) growth of 38%.
Government aims for UPI to reach one billion transactions daily
Growth forecast
UPI's growth has slowed down from a 5-7% month-on-month (MoM) increase and about 35% annual growth in 2025, to 4% MoM and around 26% annual growth.
The Indian government aims for UPI to hit one billion transactions per day by later this year.
To support digital payments, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman allocated ₹2,000 crore as incentive expenditure for UPI and RuPay debit cards on February 1.
