WhatsApp: WhatsApp is testing a new feature that will allow users to access upcoming features without having to join a separate beta program. According to the feature-tracking website WABetaInfo, some users have started seeing a new option to join the beta program within the app itself.
Why did WhatsApp have to make this change?
Currently, WhatsApp's beta program on the Google Play Store is limited to a certain number of users, and the slots are usually full. This means many people are unable to try out new features early on. To address this problem, WhatsApp is now creating a new way within the app itself to give more users access to early features.
New option seen in the latest Android beta update
This new feature has been spotted in WhatsApp's Android beta version 2.26.2.11, which is currently rolling out via the Google Play Store. The company is currently testing it with a limited number of users to plan further based on feedback.
How will the "Early Access to Features" feature work?
Users who receive this feature will be able to see an option called "Early access to features" in WhatsApp's Settings. From this section, they will be able to use some new features before their official launch. If a user doesn't like the beta features or wants to switch back to the stable version, they can disable this option at any time.
What happens when you leave the beta?
As soon as the user disables this feature, WhatsApp will automatically switch back to the stable public version. This means there will be no need to do anything separately, and the next update will be installed normally.
Currently available to limited users
Currently, this feature is only available to select Android users who have installed the latest WhatsApp update. Some existing beta users may also see this new toggle. The company has not yet given any official information regarding its wider rollout. Therefore, users are advised to check their WhatsApp settings regularly.
