New York. Indian-American Congressman Ro Khanna has condemned the killing of a Hindu garment factory worker in Bangladesh and urged the global community to raise its voice against such “disgusting, hate and bigotry-driven acts”. Dipu Chandra Das (27) was beaten to death by a mob in Baluka in Mymensingh district of Bangladesh earlier this month and his body was set on fire over alleged blasphemy. Around 12 people have been arrested so far in connection with the murder. Khanna shared a post on the social media platform on Saturday, calling Das’s murder a “horrible” incident.
Khanna, a member of the Democratic Party and MP, said, “My thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family.” We must strongly condemn and raise our voice against these despicable acts motivated by hatred and bigotry.”
Last week the United Nations also expressed concern over the recent violence in Bangladesh. “We are deeply concerned about the violence that we have seen in Bangladesh,” Stephane Dujarric, a spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, told a regular news conference in response to a question on the secretary-general’s response to attacks on minorities in the country, particularly the recent mob killings of Hindus.
