India’s new SIM-binding regulation is set to change how messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram are used. Under this rule:
-
These apps will only work on the phone where the registered SIM is active.
-
If the SIM is removed or changed, app access will be blocked immediately.
-
WhatsApp Web will auto-log out every 6 hours, reducing the risk of unauthorized access on unknown devices.
Why the Change?
The government introduced this step to tackle:
-
Rising SIM frauds
-
Cybercrime
-
Misuse of messaging apps
Who Will Be Affected?
This will particularly impact:
-
Office users
-
Dual-SIM phone owners
-
Multi-device setups
-
Travelers going abroad
After the update, users will need to keep the registered SIM active to continue using these messaging apps.
