WhatsApp is gradually modernizing its old features, and now it's time for a function that longtime users still remember: the textual status, which later became "About." A decade ago, WhatsApp didn't have photo or video statuses; people simply wrote a few words to share their mood, availability, or updates. The company is now bringing back that idea with new packaging.
In WhatsApp's latest blog post, the platform explained that "About" can now be used as a "Note." This means you can quickly share your status by adding a short text, phrase, or emoji, similar to Instagram Notes. Notably, this new "About" will now appear pinned to the top of the chat screen and more prominently on profiles. There's also the option to send reactions directly from the chat when viewing someone's "About."
WhatsApp also clarified that "About" notes will automatically disappear after a day, but you can change the settings to make them disappear faster or last longer. Visibility controls have also been updated, allowing you to decide who can see your About Notes: just contacts, select people, or a larger circle.
The new update has begun rolling out, and according to the company, the feature will gradually reach smartphones starting this week. Users will be able to see the new options by going into Settings as the update becomes available.
This means WhatsApp has once again provided an easy way for users who prefer simple text updates instead of posting photos and videos in their Status. These short About Notes can make everyday conversations more lighthearted and straightforward.
