Bank holidays in September 2025: State-wise festival closures

Banks across India will observe multiple holidays in September 2025 due to regional festivals, state observances, and regular weekend closures, as per the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) holiday calendar.

Nationwide closures

  • Banks will remain closed on all Sundays and on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month.

  • This means in-branch services won’t be available on September 7, 14, 21, 27, and 28. However, customers can continue using UPI, mobile banking, internet banking, and ATMs.

Festival-driven closures

Apart from weekend breaks, several regional holidays are scheduled, varying by state:

  • September 3 (Wednesday): Karma Puja (Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh)

  • September 4 (Thursday): First day of Onam (Kerala)

  • September 5 (Friday): Eid-e-malad (Kerala, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and others)

  • September 6 (Saturday): Indrajatra (Sikkim and select regions)

State-specific holidays

  • Jammu & Kashmir: September 22-23 (Emperor Day Singh’s Birthday)

  • West Bengal, Assam, Odisha, Tripura: September 29-30 (Mha Saptami and Ashtami)

  • Multiple states including Kerala, Maharashtra, UP: September 5

Planning ahead

While physical branches will remain closed on the above dates, digital banking channels will function without interruptionallowing customers to carry out transactions seamlessly.
