Aadhaar big update: Owing to the significant number of children whose biometric data remains un-updated the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) in a new advisory for the parents of children who have turned seven years old is urging the parents to complete the Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU). The UIDAI has also warned that if the parents don’t complete the mandatory process then the Aadhaar card of their children will be deactivated. While the Aadhaar card is primarily meant for adults minors too can get their own Aadhaar card. Here is the process of applying for a minor Aadhaar card. What are the present rules? As per the present rules under the Aadhaar Act 2016 children have to undergo a Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) after five years of age. The process of MBU requires updating their fingerprints iris scans and facial images as these attributes are considered mature enough for accurate capture at this age. However UIDAI noticed that many parents have not complied with this requirement. What is the new warning by the UIDAI? “Timely completion of MBU is an essential requirement for maintaining the accuracy and reliability of biometric data of children. If the MBU is not completed even after 7 years of age the Aadhaar number may be deactivated as per the existing rules” said UIDAI. What documents are required for kids? To apply for a minor Aadhaar card you will need the following documents: The childs birth certificate or school certificate. The parents Aadhaar card or any other valid government ID proof such as PAN card passport or driving license. The parents address proof such as electricity bill water bill or telephone bill. A passport-sized photograph of the child.
