New Delhi: A wave of patriotic sentiment following India’s Operation Sindoor—launched in retaliation to the Pahalgam terror strike—has gripped Bollywood, with several filmmakers eager to lock in the title for upcoming films.
According to India Today, nearly 15 production houses and directors have already submitted applications to register the title ‘Operation Sindoor’ with the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association. BN Tiwari, President of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), confirmed this trend.
In Bollywood, such reactions are not new. The industry has a history of capturing major national moments on screen. As per an insider quoted in the report, many producers apply for titles as soon as any major national event unfolds. Even if a film isn’t immediately planned, title registration offers creative rights for future development. With hits like Uri, War, and Fighter proving the popularity of patriotic and war-based content, filmmakers are eager to explore similar themes.
Veteran filmmaker Ashoke Pandit admitted to filing for the title. He noted that while there’s no immediate plan for a movie, having the title is the essential first step. “This subject is personal to me—my community has suffered due to terrorism. The story of Operation Sindoor deserves to be told,” he said.
Reportedly, Mahaveer Jain was among the first to file, followed by studios like T-Series, Zee Studios, and director Madhur Bhandarkar. However, Reliance Industries clarified that it had no intention of using the title. Jio Studios retracted its application, citing it was filed without proper authorization.
